The short answer: a dating coach changes how you date. A matchmaker changes who you meet. If you keep meeting men and it keeps going wrong in the same way, you need coaching. If your judgement is sound and the problem is that there is nobody worth meeting, you need matchmaking. Most women ask for the second when they need the first.

I offer both, which puts me in an unusual position to be honest about the difference. I also turn people away from the wrong one fairly regularly, because a woman who buys matchmaking when she needed coaching will get excellent introductions and repeat the same pattern with all of them.

What a dating coach actually does

Coaching works on you: your standards, your judgement, your patterns and what you tolerate. It is the right choice when the issue is not access but interpretation.

You probably need coaching if you recognise yourself here:

  • You meet plenty of men, and it unravels the same way each time.
  • You know roughly when something is wrong, and you override yourself anyway.
  • You over invest early, then feel unable to leave once you have.
  • You are attracted to unavailable men and bored by available ones.
  • You have plenty of dating advice and no working method.

Coaching is slower than people expect, because we are changing a habit of judgement rather than handing you a script. It is also the only one of these routes that keeps working after you stop paying for it.

What a matchmaker actually does

Matchmaking works on the pool: who you meet, whether they have been screened, and whether their intentions have been verified by a person rather than inferred from a profile.

You probably need matchmaking if this is closer to the truth:

  • Your judgement is fine. There is simply nobody suitable in front of you.
  • You are time poor and cannot spend evenings sorting through apps.
  • You want privacy and would rather not be publicly dating online.
  • You are clear about what you want and tired of explaining it from scratch.
  • You would rather meet three screened men than three hundred unscreened ones.

Matchmaking does not fix judgement. If you have a pattern of choosing badly, a matchmaker will introduce you to someone perfectly suitable and you will find him boring. I would rather say that plainly than take the fee.

Coaching changes the chooser. Matchmaking changes the choices. Work out which one is broken before you spend anything.

The four routes, and who each one is for

A single Dating Clarity Session

This is one private forty five minute conversation about one specific situation, paid in full at booking. It is the right choice when you have a defined question rather than a general pattern. Should I stay in this. Is what I am seeing a red flag. Do I say something or walk.

This is a focused, paid working session. You bring one situation, and you get my honest read on it. Details are on the Dating Clarity Session page.

Coaching, private or group

Coaching is for the repeating pattern rather than the single decision. Private coaching is one to one over three months, and suits women who want the work focused entirely on their own situation and would rather not discuss it in a group.

Group coaching runs over six months with a new cohort every three months. The group format is not simply the cheaper option. Hearing another woman describe your own pattern back to you is often what makes it click, and that is something private work cannot replicate.

Both are by application rather than direct booking, because they only work when the fit is right and I would rather establish that before anyone commits.

Dating profile strategy

Sometimes the problem is narrow and mechanical. You are on the apps, you are getting attention, and it is consistently the wrong attention. That is a positioning problem, not a character problem, and it is fixable in one focused piece of work rather than months of coaching.

Fix My Dating Profile covers the photos, the wording and the filtering signals that decide who thinks you are worth approaching. If you are otherwise happy with how you date and only the inbound quality is wrong, start here rather than with coaching.

Professional matchmaking

Matchmaking is the most involved route and the most selective. I meet the people I introduce, which is the entire point and also why the client list stays small.

Women apply through matchmaking for women. There is also a men's dating pool, which is a free database application rather than a paid service, and it exists so that the men being introduced have been through a real process rather than pulled from an app. The overview of how the whole thing works sits on the matchmaking page.

If you are choosing between apps and matchmaking specifically

That is a slightly different question, and it deserves more space than a paragraph here. I have written it up properly in dating apps vs matchmaking in Ireland and the UK, including the cases where staying on the apps with a better profile is genuinely the smarter move.

The honest summary

Ask yourself one question. If I introduced you tomorrow to a genuinely suitable, available, relationship minded man, would you recognise him and would you be able to build something with him?

If yes, your problem is access, and matchmaking is your route. If you hesitated, your problem is not access, and no volume of introductions will solve it. Start with coaching or a single session, and then consider matchmaking once your judgement is doing its job.

The full range of options and prices sits on Work With Ola. If you genuinely cannot tell which is yours, book the single session and ask me directly. Being told you need the cheaper thing is a perfectly good outcome.
